WRITERS WORKSHOP CALLOUT

We are seeking writers to attend a writing workshop hosted by writer and poet Sean O'Connor with a view to writing a short essay on Care to be published as part of our annual book project which will be compiled and edited by Applefest director Theresia Guschlbauer and Sean O'Connor and designed by Paul Bokslag.

The workshop will take place on Tuesday 26th May from 6 to 9pm.

At the workshop you will be encouraged to explore different aspects of the care world as well as be introduced to the following literary skills:

1. Become familiar with a range of narrative approaches.
2. Understand how to generate emotional resonance in your writing.
3. Understand the editing process.
4. Become familiar with a range of editing techniques.

SEAN O'CONNOR

Sean O’Connor is an award winning poet, author and editor from Nenagh. He is the founder and editor of The Haibun Journal, was editor of the Irish print journal Haiku Spirit 1998-2000 and has judged several international literary contests. O’Connor’s work has been widely published, translated, and anthologised worldwide. He won the HSA Merit Book Award: Best Haibun Book 2021 for Fragmentation (Alba Publishing 2021) and his haiku nights drawing in won second place in the HSA Haiku Award 2022. Also in 2022, his title The God of Bones was awarded honourable mentions in both the HSA Merit Book Award and in the Touchstone Distinguished Books Award. His sixth book, A Patch of Earth, was awarded an honourable mention in the HSA Merit Book Awards, 2024. He was awarded Literature Bursaries by the Arts Council of Ireland in both 2021 and 2022.
